Scrap the Boys June challenge

The challenge this month at Scrap the Boys is to use  the sketch to inspire you.

This is my take:

I kept pretty much to the sketch replacing one of the photos with a journal card. I used Kaisercraft Off the Wall pp and embellishments. I created the background by painting some gesso. Then used a Crafters Workshop stencil and some Viva Decor Ferro graphite. I also used a Kaisercraft stamp and Distress Ink and a Prima stamp and Viva Decor white stamp paint. Lastly I embossed some silver blots and flicked some inks around the page.

Here are some close ups. A Charms Creations Super Star layered over some of the die cut star paper that came with the range.

I embossed some silver blots onto nude chipboard letters to look like splashes of water.

Scrap the Boys March Challenge

The challenge this month at Scrap the Boys is to use this sketch.



Here is my take:

I have always loved using bright colours and felt this photo warranted them to match the bright colours of the rainbow lorikeet sitting on my son's shoulder. I used a mix of patterned papers from Doodlebug and dug around in my embellishment stash for the embellies.

I used an old Purple Pumpkin fabric button and an old fimo bird on a pin. The wooden button is from Jillibean Soup. The enamel dots were from D-Lish Scraps and I used some star shaped clips and a couple of mini brads to hold down my date.

 I also used a brand new embellie - felt arrow from Charms Creations.

Scrap the Boys Sept challenge

Yay, I have managed to get Layout No. 14 for the month done! This one is for Scrap the Boys The September challenge is 'Domesticated'. This is a layout of DS. We sent him to Montessori Preschool when he was 3 as he really needed something to stimulate him more than the 2 hours a week 3-yr old kinder. There they believed in the children cutting up their own apples and washing up their plates after eating. I toyed with making this photo black and white as I didn't think I would be able to match it with the purpley top DS is wearing but decided to pick up on the read and turqoise of the washing up and the brown stripe of his sweat shirt. The pp from the Rough and Tumble Carta Bella collection went well with the photo and was another collection I had bought (just the 6x6 pad and stickers) and never used. The die cut background is from Jillibean Soup and I also used a pinwheel from Rainbow Splendour and a flair from D-Lish Scraps.

Scrap the Boys May challenge

This months challenge over at Scrap the Boys was to get grungy/messy. 

Well I certainly did that using a mixture of gelatos and black Dylusion spray, The Crafters Workshop stencils, Kaisercraft stamp and Viva Decor Ferro texture paste to create the background. I then matted my photo on some black cardstock and corrugated card. The photo was framed with a Blue Fern chipboard circle piece that I coloured with black Dylusion spray and then partly embossed with black embossing power. I had intended to emboss it all but somehow managed to lose the embossing powder in the middle of the process (I later discovered that it had rolled along the floor into another room). So I just used the excess powder I had and it made it more grungy being partly embossed. To finish off I added some metal washers and Charms Creations chevrons.

As soon as DD and I heard the quote from Batman off the Lego Movie that he only works in black and sometimes v v dark grey, we immediately thought of my son who only wears black or grey.

Scrap the Boys March challenge

Back with another share today!

I love the colour combo which is the challenge over at Scrap the Boys this month - yellow, blue and green.

Here is my take. The background started life as a white sheet of cardstock that had been used to soak up excess Dylusions spray at the one of the Master's classes I did last year. So there were splotches of lemon zest, green grass and turquoise blue on it. I added some stamping using the same Dylusion sprays and London blue and some Kaisercraft background stamps. I sprayed the Dylusions onto a craft sheet and then swirled the stamps in the spray. The result was a sort of splotchy stamp. I also used some tin lids to get the circles. I then flicked some water onto it and wiped a bit with a baby wipe. I also did some stencilling with my favourite dots stencil and Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.

There wasn't really any need for any patterned paper so I mounted the photo on some corrugated card and just added a couple of embellishments - a Charms Creations Heavenly Heart and a Lil' Something flair and some thin twine.

Finally, I added some alphas each side of a Heidi Swapp resist arrow coloured with more chipped sapphire ink.

Loved the background it all created.

Scrap the Boys February challenge

It's been a while since I played along with the challenge at Scrap the Boys  but this month I just managed to get it done on time. The criteria this month was to create a layout about your boy/s and someone special in their life. 

I found this lovely photo of Robert and his Dad from a few years back but I felt it showed the bond they have together. They often go out to the movies together and they're both into computing and like the same genre of TV and movies and although I know he loves me, I think he takes more note of his Dad, especially on the nagging front!

Anyway here is my layout. I love the way it has turned out. I used some old Basic Grey Oliver pp. I cut the dotty paper and then added some Viva Decor Graphite Ferro texture paste on top.

Scrap the Boys July Challenge

The challenge at Scrap the Boys this month is to scrap a black and white head shot of your boy.

This isn't too flattering a shot but shows his teeth when he first got braces - 2 and a half years ago, He still has them but is close to getting them off.

I created a background with three stencils and black, silver and blue ink. I added some blotches of glimmermist. Then I layered some metallic patterned papers, some silver metallic die cuts form LYB and some metal fly screen and some washi tape and silver embossed WOW chipboard.

Finished off with some stickers from LYB, metal washers, Prima black rhinestone chevrons and stamped a couple of arrows.
