The Studio and Creatalicious Jan challenges

I don't normally combine challenges but this one seemed to fit both the Jan challenge over at The Studio - to create a page about new beginnings. DS starts on his VCE years in a few days time, and Creatalicious Challanges #42 which was to journal about what we were hoping for this year. I have included some hidden journalling (see close up below) about my hopes for my son over the next couple of years. He is really bright but will not apply himself to his studies. He really needs to if he is to get into university to study aerospace engineering, which is his wish.

I had such fun playing with Kaisercraft Rewind for the Kaisercraft sketch the other day that I decided to create another layout using it.

I have also included lots of Purple Pumpkin goodies. Here I have used a fabric button with a blue star on, an orange doily and some black zig zag washi tape.

For this cluster I again used some washi tape, a black vinyl heart and a black spotted white fabric button.

Here is a close up of my hidden journalling.

Hope all my Australian followers had a lovely Australia Day.
Don't forget Sam has some great specials over in the Purple Pumpkin shop this weekend.

Scrap the Girls Dec/Jan Challenge 4

I love recipe challenges so had to have a go at this one at Scrap the Girls
The challenge was to use :
Circles,
Ink/paint
Flowers
Ribbon
a number in the title

I have decided this year to really make an effort to use up some of my stash and cut back on buying new stuff. This especially means patterned paper of which I have masses. I have several collections that I have bought but never used. This was one such collection - Crate Paper Farmhouse. It was good as it made me use a colour combination I wouldn't normally use but I have decided I actually quite like.

And here is a close up of one of my clusters.

Kaisercraft Saturday Sketch #2 January

When I saw this Saturday sketch I knew I had to do it. I love busy sketches.
I hunted around in my  Kaisercraft collections and found some old papers that I really liked and hadn't used - Rewind.  I also used a Kaiser stamp, some white Kaiser alphas and some old Kaiser rubons (black dots above and below the photo and the black words).
Here is what I came up with -

Challenge Me Happy Jan 15th Challenge

Challenge #38 over at Challenge Me Happy is to use the song "Somebody that I  used to know" by Goyte and Kimbra as inspiration for a layout. I took inspiration from the title and did a layout about my first best friend Adele, somebody that I used to know. We were friends from about the age of 3 to 12, gradually loosing touch when her parents split up and she went to live 50 miles away with her mum.

I did some hidden journalling on a tag which I slotted in behind the photo.

I used an old sketch that I found on the Scrapfriends site for the basis for this layout. Angela creates some really cool sketches. I also took the opportunity of hoeing into a 6x6 tablet of paper I had of 23 the Cosmo Cricket Line.

ScrapFriends January sketch

Looking around the internet for some inspiration I found the sketch challenge over at ScrapFriends

I really liked this sketch so decided to give it a go.

I took inspiration from the bottom half of the sketch and scrunched up the top half into the very top. This is a photo of my son at his recent 16th birthday party which was outdoor laser tag. I have used some old Kaisercraft patterned papers for this. I used a Crafters Workshop chevron template and some homemixed khaki paint for the chevrons.

I have also used some Purple Pumpkin goodies. As soon as I saw Sam had the soldier buttons back in stock I nabbed a couple as I knew DS had this party coming up. They were supposed to wear camoflage overalls but it was 37C so too hot. Tucked behind the button is an ecru crocheted doily. I have also used a canvas tag which I painted khaki and stamped with a white ink and a Kaisercraft stamp.

I did a similar thing with one of the kraft tags that the flair buttons are attached to. I also added a metal washer.

Other items used:
Twittleybitz chipboard chicken wire
kraft corrugated card
MME tag
Cogs from a boys kit from My2Angels
Ric Rac
Tim Holtz ticket
String
Jillibean corrugated alphas

Mrs Rigg

Today I'm sharing a page I did recently for the Purple Pumpkin blog.

Besides doing awesome boy and girl embellishments, Purple Pumpkin also produces elements that would look great on heritage layouts which you can find in the shop here. I'm a very big family history fan and probably spend as much if not more time on genealogy as I do on scrapbooking. I'm lucky in that I have a wealth of old family photos. Here is a layout I did about my Great Great Grandmother - Mary Ann Rigg (nee Higgins).  I included a copy of her obituary that was printed in her local paper.

Here is a close up of my embellishment cluster with lots of Purple Pumpkin goodness.

I have included a lovely, brown satin flower, a couple of crocheted doilies - aqua and cream, a paper doily with text on, a fabric button with aqua flowers on, some kraft die cut butterflies and a piece of brown lace fabric.

Until next time

Happy New Year and Jan Purple Pumpkin Sketch

Happy New Year. I hope you had a good one. We saw the New Year sitting on a train. We went into Melbourne to see the family fireworks at 9.30pm and would have liked to stay for the midnight fireworks but the last train home was 11.24pm!

Anyway, undoubtedly the best scrappy thing to happen to me in 2012 was to become part of the Purple Pumpkin Design Team.

Being a new month it's time for a new sketch.
Here it is designed by Crece.

And here is my interpretation. Another birthday layout of my DS. He love's his steak so as we were in Ballarat on his birthday we decided to go to Hog's Breath Cafe which do a great steak.

And here is some close ups of the Purple Pumpkin goodies I have used.

This one shows a black vinyl cog, an orange spotty button and a cute fire breathing dragon flair button.

Here I used an XL black star button and a tiny orange spotty button.

You have until the end of the month to complete this Sketch Challenge and link it up in our sidebar  on the PP blog by midnight 31st of January 2013. There will be two fabulous Purple Pumpkin prize packs to give away - one winner will be chosen by the design team, and the second will be a random prize draw.
