Scrap Your Story challenge #11 and Frosted Design challenge

In contrast to my last layout I decided to do something more graphic and simple for this one.
It is based on Challenge 11 at Scrap Your Story, which is a sketch challenge. I also combined it with the current challenge at Frosted Designs which was to use black, white and another colour - in my case red.

Here is the sketch I used. I kept pretty much to the sketch but used washi tape for my stripes and a couple of bits of 12 inch border stickers I had left. I used some very old Bella rubon to create the lines around the photos. I replaced the stars with Studio Calico Wood Veneer aeroplanes painted black.

White With 1 May challenge

The May challenge at White With 1 was to create a layout that was white with black and include banners or badges or both.

This photo is of my DD dressed up as a zombie when her class performed Ghost Busters at the school Christmas concert a couple of years ago. Her long hair looked amazing teased and with flour? in it but it was a right pain to comb through that night after she had washed it. I think it took a couple of hours!

For the challenge I went with the badges and used a couple of Flair badges from Dlish Scraps. I had fun creating the background. I used a large Crafters Workshop Chevron mask and black paint and then a small chevron mask and some texture paste. I also stamped using a couple of Kaisercraft background stamps and splashed some Black Dylusion around the page. Then a layered bits of scrap black and white paper and some corrugated cardboard and some Green Tara black web ribbon that seemed fitting. Added some washi tape from Purple Pumpkin and Teresa Collins. I also have a large ghost fabric button from Purple Pumpkin and a person paperclip from Big W, I think. Used a dymo to create my sentiments, added a wooden black and white button and used a couple of stamps from Pink Paislee Portfolio. Then added my title using AC thickers and some chevrons from Prima.

OUAS and Berry71 Bleu May challenge

This month Once Upon a Sketch and Berry71 Bleu have teamed up with a joint challenge.

The challenge at OUAS was to use the sketch and include a meaningful number somewhere on the layout - either in the title or journalling. Berry71Bleu had the additional criteria of using chipboard.

I used the number 20 as it is very meaningful for us this year. In August we will have been married 20 years and it is also 20 years since we bought and moved into our house. Coincidently, it was also 20 years since we last went to Port Campbell.

I used a couple of 2Crafty chipboard polaroid photo frames and covered them with Lily Bee patterned paper. The rest of the paper and most of the embellishments are from Amy Tan Sketchbook. I also used some Studio Calico wood veneer embellishments.
The background to my pp was created by watering down some Teal Dylusions to create a watercolour effect.

Here is the sketch that my layout is based on. I sort of flipped it vertically.

Scrap Your Story Challenge #10

Just scraping this one in with 2 hours to go. The challenge this week at Scrap Your Story was to scrap favourites. I've been mulling it over all week and finally decided to give it a go this morning and scrap about my favourite TV shows on at the moment. I had the idea for the collage of photos and that worked out fine.
When I sat down to do the layout, the finished layout ended up completely different from how I'd imagined it.   I remembered I had some Jillibean Soup pp with TV's on so that was my starting point. I thought of concentrating on the blues and reds of the photo with some grey. However, I couldn't find a grey I liked and the other colours were going to make it too dark. So I decided on the base aqua paper which is from the  Jillibean Soup Blossom Soup Collection. As it happens I got a collection pack of Teresa Collins Memories this week and it was sitting on the floor next to my desk. I decided to have a look at it and saw the film strip paper and thought that would go well. Then I noticed the grey spotted paper and thought that too was perfect. Then I noticed the Schedule journalling card and was going to pop that behind my photo and had started cutting it out when I thought I could write what nights the shows were on. So quickly it came together completely different from how I'd set off. I did end up cutting a TV out of the original Jillibean Soup paper I had intended using.
Anyway I like how it ended up.

Scrap Our Stash May #1 challenge

Afternoon, the weather is absolutely gorgeous here in Victoria today. The kids have gone off to school in their summer uniform!
Today I have a layout to show you from another new (to me) challenge site - Scrap Our Stash

The first May challenge this month is to use patterned paper from 3 different collections AND use rubons.

Here is my take on the challenge. I've used a photo from our last holiday in Queensland back in Dec 2011. We've booked a holiday for Sydney next month - can't wait and hopefully I'll get a crop of new photos to scrap!
Anyway back to the challenge, I have used pp from 1. Basic Grey Origins (base and stripey strip) 2. American Crafts Campy Trails (light green wood grain and dark brown) and 3. some very old Cosmo Cricket Haunted (moss green and wood brown). I used some Studio Calico bird rub ons and  Scenic Route Enjoy and circular happy green rubs ons.

My Creative Sketches April Sketch

This month I discovered the My Creative Sketches site and decided to have a go at their sketch challenge for April. I decided to get creative with Purple Pumpkin tickets and cut lengths of tickets in half to create the border. I also replaced strips of pp with tickets.

I replaced the flowers with my own star shaped embellishment cut from corrugated card and felt and added an XL dark blue star fabric button to top it off.

Here is the sketch I worked from. I created a mirror image of it.

Oodles of Echo Park

Good afternoon, I hope you had a happy Scrapbooking Day yesterday. I have been taking part in a few competitions on the Internet and decided to have a go at one of the scrapping comps over at Echo Park.

This is for their challenge #4 10x the love in which you had to create a layout using 10 papers or stickers or brads etc.
I chose to use 10 different papers from the This and That Charming range. Some are from the 12 x 12, some are from the 6x6 pad. I think this is one of my most favourite of all the ranges Echo Park has put out.
I also had a play with my Silhouette Machine that I got for my birthday. It's been sitting on my desk for a few weeks now and I finally plucked up courage to use it! I was a bit scared it wasn't going to cut properly (I had this problem with another electronic cutting machine I owned). It cut this circle pattern out fine. This design was what I had been wanting it for.

This weekend I have also managed to get a layout done for challenge #69 over at CSI. Coincidently, it too uses Echo Park pps, though they are from a mix of ranges.

Here is the case file.

I used all the colours. My evidence is house, circles, metal (washers), stripes (red pp). My testimony was to journal about an unlikely friendship - me and my washing machine (a bit tongue in cheek). It wasn't working properly this week and as it is 20 years old we were considering getting a new one. The morning we were going to the shops I asked my DH to drain it just to see if something was blocking it. Anyway there was a 5c coin in the outflow pipe. We gave it another chance and it worked fine. PS I also used my Silhouette to cut out the words which replicate the program panel on the washing machine.
